In SWTOR, I’ve been playing the tank class since launch. I’ve been bouncing between the three tank classes, my juggernaut (Fremoc), my powertech (Cmdr-Hotstuff) and my assassin (Dinek).
Originally I believed stacking the endurance heavy mods in the tank gear, would actually work a lot better than having the higher main stat (strength, aim, or willpower) , and secondary stats (Defense Rating or Absorbtion Rating) than endurance. The same thing applies to Enhancements, where having higher Shield rating with a medium amount of endurance and low amount of Defense or Absorbtion will help even more with damage mitigation. Having the Shield, Defense, or Absorbtion stats are more beneficial to have because it would take a lot more damage to cause you to actually loose health versus having a lot of health and being able to lose half of it in one hit when your Shield Rating, Defense, or Absorbtion is actually low. Also having a higher amount of health with those low stats actually could stress the healers and make them lose their Force Pool, Energy, or overheat faster.
That being said, the gear tanks require only drop from Operations. It drops the tank’s set bonuses, as well as the mods and enhancements that they require. The downside to this is, there are small chances that on Hard Mode flashpoints for gear the tanks actually want and it would be easier for for tanks to queue in the operations group finder queue. The other issue is, a lot of tanks, including myself, have been spoiled. I say this because I’m used to having a group that will spacebar through everything, and then speed through all the bosses in the flashpoint. PUG groups for flashpoints don’t always do that and want to do everything possible. PUG groups have even hurt my head due to them thinking a certain way will work, despite being told otherwise.
Here’s the final bit of my tank gearing post and the first post of the School of Tanking. I did some math the other day, and calculated that with full Artifact quality (the purple type) of the accuracy augments or the prototype (blue) accuracy augments, your accuracy will be just over the needed amount for the 100% needed. This is absolutely needed. It is possible to miss taunts. I have seen it happen in a raid, and it can make or break the raid. With these augments, it also increases your health while your Defense and Absorption is maintained.
And that’s it for this time.
