Another game I play is Knights and Dragons on my phone. It’s addicting and cheesy but a heck of a lot of fun.
You start the game with your main knight and as you progress through the game you gain five more knights. Each one tied to a certain element. They are wind, water, spirit, fire, and earth. They can only wear armor of their element type, as well as a ring and amulet that is of the same element of the armor that they are wearing. For example a fire knight wearing fire and earth combination armor can only wear fire and earth rings or amulets, not spirit, wind, or water.
The “story” of Knights and Dragons is sixteen levels of you against the environment, and each level getting harder. Each level have five sub levels, normal, mighty, valor, honor, and epic. Epic being the hardest sub level. Every month there is what is known as heroic mode, where each level gains another sub level called heroic. Once you go through that level eight times you get a starcrystal. After you get eight starcrystals you can craft the heroic armor, which is usually one of the best armors with those elements.
Armors have many different tiers, nemesis (which is normally used just in epic boss battles), common, uncommon, rare, super rare, ultra rare, legendary, epic, dragonforged, and shadowforged. A lot of your armor can be crafted through an armorsmith or they can be created by fusion – combining two other armors to make one in hopes they will be better in rarity and stats. Another way to get armor is by getting them as rewards through events or you spend what is known as gems on chance chests to get armors.
All armors have their own stats, where most players use epic armors because the offense and defense of approximately 2200. Getting to that point though, you need to level your armors up from one to ninety-nine, except for dragonforged which goes to one hundred and five. You have to use other armors by fusing them into the armor you want to get better. You can also use what is known as fusion boost armors to help level your armors up as well. There is an armor that has no weakness, and that is what is known as starmetal, any knight can wear it, but is only weak against other starmetal armors.
There is an arena that you can participate in for player versus player, where you and three of your knights take on another players three knights and who ever has the best armor, wins.
Recently, pets have been added into the game, where the pets grant extra special abilities, and also have the same five elements as armors, except for Starmetal. These pets range from common to ultra rare, in rarity and to make their stats better, they have to use other pets of the same level to become tier 2 or tier 3. There is rumors of pet events coming, but we haven’t seen them yet.
Epic Bosses are another thing that happen on a weekly basis on Tuesdays. Every week it is a new element combination and through milestone rewards, after beating the epic boss fifteen times, you are able to craft an epic armor, which up until recently, the stats have become better and better.
Guilds are a major part of the game because if you are not part of any guild, you can not participate in any of the events that happen in the game. A guild can have up to 40 members, as well as have element boosts for their members armors up to 10 percent.
There are two different types of events that are held in game, raid and war. Every weekend is either a raid or a war, and the one not held that weekend is held the following weekend. Raids are two day events, where you and your guild attack a boss similar to an epic boss but you have six levels of a raid boss that your guild chooses from, each level tougher than the last and level six being the toughest but granting the most reward for your guild from, while a level three or four would grant great milestone reward points. A war is normally a three day event over the course of the weekend where, as its similar to the arena, you and your guild are declaring a war, and attempting to score points against other guilds by attacking the opposing guild’s members. You do, however have to take out the opposing guild’s sentinel, which protects the guild from any attacks, before moving to their members. After attacking and gaining points, you also earn milestone awards. These milestone rewards that are in raids, epic bosses, the arena, and wars, give you other lower level armors, rings, fusion boosts, chance chest keys, gems, and free energy.
Recently, Gree, the game developer, added in a quality of life improvement where all you have to do is click the FIGHT button on the game, and if you have everything highlighted, the game will automatically continue to the next round of a staged area, use your special attacks, your pet’s special attack, and go at four time the regular speed.
In all honesty though, the game is heavily pay to win. Most players buy gems, which are used to buy more energy for raids, epic boss fights, arena battles, wars, and even used on chance chests. Predominantly, people buy chance chests with the gems to get the next best armor that comes out which with all micro transactions, people get addicted to buying the chests and trying to get that armor. At the same time gems are spent at a ridiculous amount for raids and wars, with many people getting in the upwards of hundreds of millions of points.
Two side applications for this game though are sometimes needed. Raid companion, is a companion application that calculates your line up of three knights and their elements against the raid boss’ elements and what will give you the best outcome. Secondly, the application LINE. All guilds that I know of on the Android device use it to communicate with each other, and other fellow guilds.
Finally though, I love playing this game. I have fun collecting armors and leveling them up to make better combinations against raids and other players. I hope that they expand the game more over the next few years and make it larger than it currently is.
