Day 0
We wake up again at 6am and get some breakfast from the Waterfront Inn. Out the door again at 830 to get some gas and then head up to Mowats Landing to unpack our gear from my car. We wait a little while before we see Joe pull in with two guests in a small boat. He grabs our gear and puts it in his boat as we wait for the other father and son team. They arrive with their own boat, that Joe had forgotten about, and we head off to the dam with them behind us. Usually we have to get off a barge and walk up the dam to get into a new boat. This time we sat in the boat and didn’t have to get out, which is great for dad. We get onto the main lake and head for Garden Island Lodge.
At the Lodge we settle in and have some lunch. Joe informs us that he no longer has internet through the entire camp because he keeps having to put money into the network every year, so he has it only at his cabin but also has a little cell town at the main lodge. I’m fine with this, I’ve been coming up here before internet and that we literally were in the sticks.
We unpack our gear and head out for 3 hours along wolf island and sugar creek. It’s sunny and hot so the fishing was nil. We come back in and have dinner which was coconut curried chicken with linguine and peppers. Was a little spicy but still good. Desert was chocolate cheesecake and coffee.
We head down to Sucker Gut and try fishing down there where we had much success last year. Dad wound up catching a 19 and 23 inch walleye and I caught our breakfast fish of 14 and 15 inches. We caught other smaller fish but threw them back. At about 8pm the game warden and a cop show up and board our boat to check out the fish in our live well, as well as check out licenses. After 9pm we head in after our depth finder turned off and informed the dock hands about it.
At about 1030pm Dad and I are passed out.
