Technically, it’s 2021 but hey, it’s technically part of the 2020 season since New Jersey has pre-plans the seasons. The major change from the farm hunt and this time, is that I now have the lovely girlfriend with me and also a new bow and other smaller equipment.
We have a wildlife management area around the corner from where we live, and unfortunately with when winter bow season is, it’s also pheasant season. On Saturdays especially, it’s very busy with hunters working the fields with their dogs. Fortunately on Sundays, archery for deer is allowed in the management area. After doing some research and talking to some people in New Jersey I determined I could stalk the area, obviously with blaze orange on. I inform the girlfriend about what we can do, and we decide to get her set up with her own gear for hunting and going on an adventure with me.
The lovely lady and I decided to go out on a Sunday to see what we could potentially come across. I spray her and myself down with “Dead down Wind” spray and start trekking through the area. More than likely while we were walking through and mostly my inexperience we scared any chance at deer away. We walk around for about 3 hours, enough for the two of us to get pretty hot underneath our clothes. We head back to the car and call my dad, who unbeknownst to me was heading out in my direction incase I did get a deer.
And that was pretty much it.
I wanted to go back out during my winter vacation, but because of a bad snow storm that came through that equaled approximately 18 inches of snow, I wasn’t about to go out tracking in the woods in unfamiliar grounds.
