So, last week I finally had surgery to remove a cyst from my wrist. I’ve been documenting most of my surgery on Twitter and Instagram, but I’m finally writing it all down here.
I’ve had this cyst for over three years now, and three years ago I had it drained. Draining a cyst has a chance to come back at 50%. Which ultimately, the cyst did come back some weeks later. Finally some months ago it started to bother me more than usual, and during an annual physical with my doctor, she set me up with a specialist.
A month goes by and I finally meet the specialist. I tell him the deal, they do a couple x-rays, and says to me maximum six weeks off from work and if you heal up quickly you can go back earlier obviously.
I go home, talk to my family and my fellow employees, and get the surgery scheduled for last Tuesday and then start the disability claim. I get the paperwork filled out online, and wait for the paperwork from the doctor to get back to my insurance.
The day of the surgery I go in after not eating or drinking anything since 1130pm the night before and I’m nervous. My first time getting an IV in me as well as being strapped to a bed before surgery and being knocked out by the anesthesia. Before I knew it I was waking up in the recovery room asking for a ginger ale and my dad. I do remember waking up moments prior, and asking why my wrist was on fire to the nurse. I noticed that my arm is bandaged up in a splint while Dad took pictures. The doctor eventually comes over and informs me that the cyst was an iceberg, where it wound up being huge in the joint of my wrist. As we go to leave the nurse hands me paperwork to sign and I look up at him and look at my wrist. He realizes his error and hands the paperwork to my dad.
We go home for the night and head down to the beach the next morning. Now the worst part about it, is that I can’t get the splint wet or sandy. Soa I’m in the house watching TV and playing games on my phone for the next week.
The pain didn’t exist the first day, but then the second and third day, it was nagging pain and had to use the Tylenol with codeine that I was given. Since then the cast has just been the pain in the butt part. Just one more day and then it’s off.
